The story behind Amegy Bank’s downtown relocation

San Antonio

The story behind Amegy Bank’s downtown relocation

Sponsored by: Amegy Bank

Officials at Amegy Bank work to make the move 300 Convent in Downtown San Antonio.

San Antonio residents and businesses now have easier access to full-service banking with Amegy Bank’s downtown move to 300 Convent. The headquarters relocation brings more than a new address; it reinforces the bank’s commitment to the community.

Why downtown? Why now?

The move was a deliberate step toward being closer to the city’s momentum.

“We believe downtown is experiencing a remarkable renaissance culturally, economically and civically,” Amegy Bank-Central Texas CEO David McGee said. “By moving our Central Texas headquarters to the heart of the city and opening a new downtown branch...we’re reaffirming our commitment to being a visible, accessible and engaged supporter of our clients, communities and in the region’s continued growth.”

The bank aims to grow with the city by supporting local businesses, empowering families and investing in long-term progress.

Behind the headquarters office design

Although the downtown branch opened in June, the process began years ago. Amegy Bank partnered with the architectural firm, Perrin Projects, and other local teams to design a space that reflects both their operational goals and community values.

“From planning to execution, this was a collaborative effort,” McGee said. “We could not be more grateful for everyone involved in the project.”

The new headquarters span the 21st and 22nd floors of a downtown high rise, encompassing more than 40,000 square feet and housing 100 offices and workstations. It also features a conference center for large client and community events, as well as smaller meeting spaces to foster collaboration.

The ground floor includes a full-service banking center equipped with upgraded technology, collaborative spaces and private client rooms.

Visitors walking into the new branch are greeted not just by tellers, but by works from local artists—part of a partnership with ArtLifting, an organization that supports artists with disabilities.

“We've created an environment that supports meaningful, efficient and relationship-driven experiences,” McGee said. “It’s a vibrant, inclusive space that reflects the spirit of the city, the work of our neighbors and our belief in the power of community.”

A platform for impact

Amegy Bank views its new location not just as a workplace, but as a platform to build stronger relationships with clients and neighbors.

“We see ourselves as more than a bank; we’re a neighbor, a supporter and a collaborator,” McGee said. “We’ll be hosting events, supporting local initiatives and creating opportunities for connection.”

Being downtown also ties the bank more closely to the historical and cultural core of the city.

“For Amegy Bank, being headquartered here is both a strategic and symbolic decision,” McGee said. “By investing in downtown, we’re not just supporting economic development; we’re honoring this legacy of longevity and growth.”

What’s ahead

McGee said the downtown move reflects the bank’s deeper mission: building relationships and serving with purpose.

“This move is a bold step forward, but it’s also a reflection of who we’ve always been: a bank that believes in people, relationships and our community,” he said.
