In a nutshell
Using data released from the Texas Education Agency, district staff laid out the district’s strengths and weaknesses, and how staff can make improvements moving forward.
In the 2023-24 school year, NEISD received 108 distinctions, such as growth, science, social studies and post-secondary readiness. The school year saw 30 distinctions for elementary schools, seven for middle schools and five for high schools. NEISD improved year over year and saw 116 distinctions, including 31 for elementary schools, six for middle schools and six for high schools for the 2024-25 school year.
Improvements in the 2024-25 school year include a 64% increase in A’s from 2023-24; over 60% of traditional campuses earned at least one distinction, including 10 campuses that earned five or more distinctions; and an increase in potential college credit opportunities.
Identified areas of opportunity include implementing curriculum support and improving performance in math in grades 4-7. Additionally, all K-12 teachers will participate in professional learning for effective foundation math practices to improve instruction district-wide.
Going forward
Moving forward, the district will implement a series of strategies to improve scores.
Personalized learning:
- Support campuses in targeted master schedule planning
- Intentional resources based on student needs
- Professional learning to support students who continue to struggle and/or need enrichment
- Ensure math teachers have the content and pedagogical knowledge in grade level math
- Provide a professional support plan customized for teachers struggling to meet the needs of their students
- Use technology as an accelerator by identifying needs and providing supplemental resources beyond the bell to help reinforce specific skills
- Utilize formative assessments for teachers to make timely decisions and adjust instructional practices to meet students where they are and accelerate learning
- Monthly data review with campus leaders on economically disadvantaged students, attendance rates, discipline referrals and trends around specific skills students may be missing
- Increase collaboration between district and campuses by hosting think tanks and check-ins with every principal to coproduce a targeted plan of support based on campus needs
