The details
The current roadwork includes water line relocation by New Braunfels Utilities, while the city's contractors are replacing the low water crossing on Conrads with a culvert bridge structure and pavement reconstruction. By June 7, Conrads will be rebuilt in that area, said New Braunfels Communications Manager David Ferguson.
Until June 7, the flow of traffic on Conrads Lane will only be eastbound, towards the I-35 frontage road. Westbound drivers can detour on the I-35 frontage road to FM 306 and onto Goodwin Lane. No through truck traffic will be permitted on Lonesome Quail, Oak Creek Way or Morning Quail, according to a news release.
Next, work on Goodwin would begin including roadway reconstruction, building a bridge over Alligator Creek and storm sewer installation in front of Oak Creek Elementary School, Ferguson said.
The background
The project, which began April 21, is part of the Goodwin Lane and Conrads Lane Project funded by New Braunfels voters in the 2019 bond election. According to the city website, once the bond project totaling over $24 million is completed, it will include the following:
- Reconstruction of Goodwin Lane from FM 306 to Conrads Lane
- Reconstruction of Conrads Lane from Goodwin Lane to I- 35 frontage road
- Shared pedestrian walkways added
- Drainage improvements to the Alligator Creek Crossing
Scott McClelland, assistant director of transportation and capital improvements, said during an April 14 City Council meeting that the full Goodwin Lane and Conrads Lane project is anticipated to be completed in early 2027.
“We're going to be hitting it hard, certainly for these first six months, getting Conrads [Lane] most of the way completed, and then also the bridge structure on Goodwin [Lane] as well,” McClelland said at the meeting.
