On April 26, a historical marker dedication will be held for the Old Kendall County Jail.

The details

Constructed in 1887, the Kendall County Historic Jail served as the county jail for more than a century.

Through preservation efforts from the county, the jail was restored as a museum featuring exhibits and artifacts representing Kendall County.

Renovations and projects at the jail museum include:
  • Demolition/replaster walls
  • Electrical conduit/lighting
  • Install ADA restroom
  • Install exposed AC ductwork
  • Install and level new flooring
  • Roof and ceiling repairs
  • Paint and seal trim/ceiling repairs
  • Paint stairwell and guardrail
  • Restore cells to original design
  • Fire code compliance

The museum is open on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., offering the community an opportunity to look into the history of the county. The official dedication of the historical marker from the Texas Historical Commission highlights the significance of the building to the county, and the efforts to preserve the facility for residents.

The ceremony will serve as a salute to three historic buildings in downtown Boerne across from the current Kendall County Courthouse.
