Making homemade kolaches all started as a treat for AllyAnne and Jeff Thomas’ family or an occasional catering order, created on the countertops of the married couple’s home.

“My brother had a company [in Magnolia] and so we would do some catering orders out of our home,” AllyAnne said.

That was until September 2024, when AllyAnne and Jeff decided to move their ingredients into a building along FM 1488 in Magnolia and name it after co-owner AllyAnne.

“I'm from Magnolia and really wanted a place that focused on kolaches and using really good ingredients ... but I didn't know how to bake so AllyAnne came in and was a great baker and started working on all this,” Jeff, co-owner of AllyAnne’s Kolache Kitchen, said.

What’s on the menu

AllyAnne and Jeff said the business’s most popular kolaches include brisket and cheddar, sausage and cheese, bacon, egg and cheese, blueberry and streusel as well as maple pecan.

AllyAnne said she makes the bread and the jam that fill the sweeter kolaches from scratch. Many of the savory kolaches are filled with meat locally sourced from restaurants such as Bar-A-BBQ, Beckman's Barbecue and Smitty’s Meatmarket & Smokehouse.

“The food around us is so processed and everything,” AllyAnne said. “We just wanted to give something back that's really good.”

Meet the owners

Usually, Jeff comes up with ideas for the kolache flavors and AllyAnne figures out how to make them by hand. AllyAnne said it took two years to perfect the dough recipe she uses.

Since opening, the two have come up with and created special recipes offered on weekends, such as a brisket kolache with jalapeno and pimento cheese, brisket with mac and cheese and an Almond Joy-flavored kolache.

“I love it when people come in and they'll take [a kolache] to go and then they eat it in their car and run back in like, ‘That was the greatest kolache I've ever had,’” AllyAnne said.

Jeff said he loves seeing customers come by the kolache kitchen in the morning and circle back again for lunch.

Next steps

AllyAnne and Jeff said they want to expand their business and add in more baked goods like cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies and other types of bread. The duo also wants to expand the catering sector of the business.

“We're here and we use really good ingredients, [and] make everything fresh daily,” Jeff said.
