The gist
The event was hosted by the Montgomery County Historical Commission and the city including Mayor John Escoto.
Attendees also included former city mayors and county officials including Montgomery Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough and Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler.
The city was formally recognized at the Montgomery County Commissioner’s Court meeting June 10 for its anniversary.
How we got here
Shenandoah became incorporated on March 16, 1974 as a small community. Since then, its two square miles has seen residential and business development.
There are 60 restaurants, five shopping centers and 13 hotels, providing sales tax revenue that allows the city to have a low property tax rate, as previously reported by Community Impact.
