A bid for drainage improvements on Wellman Road to address incidental flooding from heavy rain was approved during the May 29 Shenandoah City Council meeting.

Shenandoah Public Works Director Joseph Peart presented to the council the list of nine bids the city received on May 8. The city approved Solid Bridge Construction, a Huntsville-based company, for $108,622.

In the invitation to bid, the city stated the project will include 273 feet of storm sewer. Peart told the board the area has a history of heavy rain and flooding near Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital.



The following is how the projected $135,000 total for the project has been spent as of May 28:
  • Design: $17,810
  • Construction: $108,622
  • Remaining: $14,823

Shenandoah will also see the dedication of a historical marker honoring its 50th anniversary. The Montgomery County Historical Society will dedicate the marker with a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. June 13 at Shenandoah City Hall, 29955 I-45 N., officials said.
