The details
As part of the improvements, Industrial Drive will be rebuilt with reinforced concrete pavement, sidewalks, upgraded storm sewers, a new waterline, improved street lighting and expanded drainage capacity, according to a Pearland Economic Development Corporation newsletter.
In partnership with the PEDC, the city is pursuing the improvements, in part, to support the 18 businesses that currently operate along the corridor as well as to reduce drainage problems, according to the newsletter.
The project is estimated to cost $6.8 million and will be financed by the PEDC, which collects sales tax revenue, according to the newsletter.
The project was awarded to Houston-based Conrad Construction Co. at a Sept. 22 Pearland City Council meeting.
Quote of note
“This is one of many that we’ve done," City Manager Trent Epperson said. “It will really improve the access and accommodate the truck traffic on Industrial Drive.”
The timeline
The project’s proposed schedule slated construction to begin in mid-October and wrap up in August, according to city documents.
