Following a check presentation April 29, officials with The Signorelli Co. announced the contribution of $300,000 to the East Montgomery County Improvement District's Scholarship Foundation via an April 30 news release.

Two-minute impact

The Signorelli Co.—the developer of Valley Ranch, a 1,400-acre master-planned community in New Caney—is a legacy donor that contributes annually to EMCID's scholarship fund. The developer's latest contribution brings its total scholarship fund contributions to over $2.8 million, per the release.

CEO Danny Signorelli said the continued growth of Valley Ranch helps the company continue to be able to give back to the local community.

"We are delighted to support East Montgomery County's next generation in their pursuit of higher education, not only for the benefit of these young people, but also for the future of East Montgomery County," he said in a statement. "Our company believes in giving back the continued success of Valley Ranch is even more gratifying because we're helping the community's future leaders achieve their goals too."

How it works

The EMCID Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships annually to all high school graduates and GED recipients within EMCID's boundaries. According to the release, the foundation has awarded 10,033 scholarships since 2004.

Recipients may use the $1,600 scholarship at any accredited college, university or trade school in the U.S. Per the release, students who attend Lone Star College receive the funds directly, while students who attend institutions outside the LSC system are reimbursed.

"This opportunity is something that student[s] should know about, especially because it's so easy to apply for," Sarah Humphrey, a scholarship recipient and nursing student at Lone Star College-Kingwood, said in a statement. "This scholarship has helping me cover the costs of books and other expenses, and I'm just really grateful this kind of support is available. It's really made a difference in my academic journey."

A $500 merit-based scholarship is also available to previous EMCID scholarship recipients who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and financial need. High school seniors are also eligible for a paid internship, when offered.
