Humble ISD officials swore in two new members and one returning member to the district’s board of trustees at their June 10 meeting. However, one position on the board of trustees remains in flux.

The details

The following trustees were sworn in after winning their respective races during the May 3 election:
  • Position 1: Newcomer Oscar Silva
  • Position 3: Incumbent Chris Parker
  • Position 5: Newcomer Elizabeth Shaw
While challenger Brittnai Brown defeated incumbent Ken Kirchhofer in the Position 4 trustee race, Kirchhofer has continued to serve in the position after Brown was declared ineligible to serve on the board in May.

HISD Superintendent Roger Brown welcomed the new and returning board members after they were sworn in.

“I don’t have a lot this evening, but I just want to say welcome to everyone,” Brown said. “I also want to thank Chris Parker for her year of service as board president and all the work she’s done for this district.”

What they’re saying

Following the ceremony, Shaw thanked the community members who attended to support the new trustees.

“Thank you everyone that came today to support support myself and Oscar,” Shaw said. “I really appreciate that.”

Silva said he was looking forward to being able to serve the community.

“We’re super excited to be up here and representing the community to the district, so thank you again,” Silva said.

Also of note

Trustees also approved the following board officers for the 2025-26 school year:
  • President: Position 6 Trustee Marques Holmes
  • Vice president: Position 7 Trustee Mike Grabowski
  • Secretary: Position 2 Trustee Robert Scarfo
  • Parliamentarian: Silva
Parker, who served as board president during the 2024-25 school year, congratulated Holmes on his appointment.

“We're going to put our focus where our focus needs to be, and I know you're going to do a great job leading this board,” Parker said.

What’s next

Concerning the Position 4 vacancy, the board can either call a special election or appoint a replacement. In the interim, Kirchhofer will continue serving.
