Early voting results for the May 3 election show James Cross and incumbent Lance Redmon are frontrunners for two Katy ISD board of trustees positions, according to KISD data.

Positions 1 and 2 are on the ballot, and four candidates filed for the two positions. Cross is challenging incumbent Victor Perez for Position 1, while Tammy Reed is facing Redmon for Position 2. Kris Fields, a write-in candidate, also ran for Position 2.Digging deeper
In a questionnaire with Community Impact, Cross, a retired KISD principal, said he believed school funding and the teacher shortage are the most pressing issues in the district.
Meanwhile, Redmon, a business owner, has served as KISD trustee since May 2019, according to the district website. In his questionnaire, he said getting the state to increase the basic student allotment is the district's most pressing issue.
What’s next?
The polls closed at 7 p.m., but voters who were in line before closing will still be able to cast their ballots, per state law.
