Here’s a roundup of the latest transportation updates, as discussed during the April 22 Montgomery City Council meeting.

College Street drainage improvements

City engineers are finalizing designs for drainage upgrades along College Street. The project is set to go to bid after receiving environmental clearances and will address long-standing erosion issues near school property and public infrastructure, according to the agenda.

Downtown street enhancements

Work on downtown streetscapes—including decking and pedestrian enhancements—is scheduled to begin after the 2025 holiday season to avoid disruptions to local businesses, City Engineer Chris Roznovsky said. The city is coordinating with property owners and the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation, according to the agenda.

FM 1097 and Atkins Creek drainage improvements

The Texas Department of Transportation has received and is evaluating bids for drainage improvements at the intersection of FM 1097 and Atkins Creek. The project will stabilize about 200 feet of creek bank within state-owned right of way where erosion is, Roznovsky said.

Hwy. 105 access management improvements

TxDOT has scheduled a stakeholder meeting for May 13 to discuss safety and access improvements along Hwy. 105 between the Grimes County Line and Shepperd Street. The project is part of an effort to manage growth and congestion near Montgomery’s downtown, according to the agenda. The project has a tentative let date of September 2027 and a beginning date of 2028.

Lone Star Bend and Lone Star Parkway improvements

The city and Montgomery County are working on an interlocal agreement for a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Lone Star Parkway and Lone Star Bend, according to the agenda.

Montgomery County has proposed widening Lone Star Parkway to four lanes with a center median as part of the 2025 road bond. If the bond is approved by voters, a permanent traffic signal would also be installed at the intersection as part of the project, Roznovsky said.
