Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said the city of Conroe recently removed Access Builds Children, which facilitates court-ordered visitation services, from the new Oscar Johnson Jr. Community Center, leaving the program without a location.
“The result of which is they have no place to go, they contacted us, asked if they could temporarily use that until they are able to find another place,” Keough said.
Commissioners voted to let the group use the Oddfellow Street property on Saturdays for four hours until a permanent site is found. Amy Davidson, first assistant county attorney, said the county is currently allowing visitations to take place in the same room where the Civil Service Commission meets on Saturday mornings.
“We’re just trying to make sure these children have an opportunity to see their parents in a safe way,” Davidson said.

Commissioners also adopted several traffic changes:
- Reducing the speed limit on Walden Road from north of Emerson Drive to the remainder of the road to 30 mph
- Establishing a 20 mph limit on all local residential roads in the Walden subdivision
- Creating a 30 mph school zone along Lone Star Parkway near Montgomery ISD’s Career and Technical Education and Agriculture Center
“If you feel as though your department needed something for you to do your job, and it's not in this preliminary budget, I would encourage you to come to court and present to us,” Ritch Wheeler, Montgomery County Precinct 3 commissioner, said. “Just because something is or is not in this preliminary budget doesn't mean that's going to get passed over the next four days.”
Wheeler and Matt Gray, Montgomery County Precinct 4 commissioner, also discussed collaborating to create a 20-year financial roadmap for future county budgets.
