The San Jacinto College board of trustees has approved a leadership realignment following recent retirement announcements within the college’s Strategic Leadership Team, or SLT, according to a Dec. 9 news release.

The details

Deputy Chancellor and College President Laurel V. Williamson will retire in August. She has been with San Jacinto College since 2007 and has served as deputy chancellor since 2013, according to the news release.

The board named Alexander Okwonna, currently provost of the North Campus, as her successor. Okwonna has been with the college for 21 years and will continue leading the North Campus until a replacement is selected.

Central Campus Provost Van Wigginton retired Dec. 9. He joined the college in 1995 and was appointed provost in 2014. In his place, Rhonda Bell has been named Central Campus provost and assumed the role Dec. 1. Bell previously served as dean of nursing and imaging and has worked at San Jacinto College for nearly 20 years, according to the news release.

At the Generation Park Campus, Christopher Wild has been appointed provost, replacing Destry Dokes. Wild, who has spent more than 15 years with the college, will assume the role Jan. 1.

The context

The SLT advises Chancellor Brenda Hellyer and the board of trustees on collegewide strategy and works to advance the college’s BOLD 2030 plan, which focuses on education, community engagement and partnerships.
