Hawaii Fluid Art in League City is under new ownership, one of the business's new owners said.

Long story short

The new owners, Adam and Mara Van de Mortel, soft opened the spot in early March under new management and are planning a grand opening event to celebrate the ownership change on May 3, Mara Van de Mortel said.

Being a franchise location, Mara Van de Mortel said the couple found the opportunity through a consultant. She said they were drawn to the business, adding that other painting and art-based businesses often restrict what patrons can do. Hawaii Fluid Art, however, allows you to "make the piece your own" through different classes, techniques and colors.

"This was the [business] that made the most sense to us and it seemed exciting and different than what's out there in terms of painting or art," Mara Van de Mortel said.

What they offer

Hawaii Fluid Art is a nationwide business that offers art classes and opportunities to use the paint-pouring technique known as fluid art. Patrons also have access to resin, mosaics and glass paintings, among other services, according to the business's website.

Mara Van de Mortel said the League City location also added a new class to its catalog, called the Nebula Experience, where guests can paint space-inspired pieces. She said their location is the only one in the country with such a class.
