What you need to know
Prosper Town Council approved on June 10 a $4.085 million contract with J&L Construction, LLC, to relocate a 12-inch water line along FM 1461.
Council also set aside an additional $400,000 to cover any potential adjustments that may occur during construction, bringing the total project budget to $4.49 million.
The need for the project comes from a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plan, launched in 2020, to widen FM 1461 from a two-lane asphalt road to a six-lane roadway.
In order to complete the planned expansion project, TxDOT required the existing water line along the project limits to be relocated outside of the project boundaries, which consist of Preston Road and Custer Road.
According to city documents, the project is estimated to be completed in nearly six months.
What’s next?
Once work on the water line is complete, the TxDOT is scheduled to begin lane expansion construction in fall 2027.
