Plano ISD employees will get an additional two days of bereavement leave for the 2025-26 through 2027-28 school years following unanimous approval from the school board at a June 10 school board meeting.

In a nutshell

Currently, PISD employees can take up to five days of bereavement leave following the death of a loved one, Chief of Employee Services Dr. Duana Kindle said during the meeting. PISD employees are now eligible for seven days of leave.

The proposal came from Dr. Kindle and Deputy Superintendent Johnny Hill after receiving feedback from district employees. PISD expects the added bereavement leave to cost $225,000, according to district documents.

“This kept coming up in feedback from our staff,” Hill said during the meeting. “This is obviously an added way that we can give back to our staff.”

Looking ahead

The new bereavement leave policy will take effect for the 2025-26 school year and last through the 2027-28 school year.
