What you need to know
The plan for the 2025-26 school year includes teacher salary increases ranging from 4%-8.5% depending on experience, as well as a minimum 3% range for all staff.
The plan was approved during PISD's June 10 board of trustees meeting. The starting salary for new teachers will rise to $63,000—or $65,000 with a master’s degree—per year, up from $61,000 last school year.
The new plan will also include the following, according to the release:
- A continued $330 monthly healthcare benefit contribution
- An additional two paid days of bereavement leave
- Access to free pre-k for children of PISD teachers
“It certainly is important as we continue to pursue acquiring the best talent that is out there to support our students and to support our programming across the district,” PISD Chief of Employee Services Duana Kindle said during the meeting. “ We understand in order to attract that top talent and to increase our retention and to remain competitive, it requires the actions that [the board of trustees] has taken when it comes to compensation for this year."
What’s next
The district’s board of trustees is expected to adopt the budget for FY 2025-26 on June 24. The school board is expected to adopt the tax rate during its Aug. 19 meeting.
