The details
Novus Academy applied for a zoning change and special use permit from the Southlake City Council during an April 15 meeting.
The move will officially happen after the lease expires in Grapevine May 31. The school will move from 3400 William D. Tate Ave., Ste. 1000, to a space owned by Gateway Church in a development called Southlake Crossing, according to city documents.
The lease with Gateway Church will be for 10 years, with additional renewable options, according to city documents.
The context
The Novus Academy, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in April, serves students who have learning differences and/or other types of challenging barriers to success, Nicolle Galipeau, the school's chief operations officer, said in a letter to council.
According to the website, The Novus Academy uses evidence-based, high-quality, comprehensive and meaningful educational programs. Small-group instruction features an emphasis on social and emotional learning.
Galipeau estimated there will be 50 enrolled students from 40 families for the 2025-26 school year, along with 17 staff members. She said most of the families reside in the area and Novus provides a niche service for students who struggle in a traditional school setting.
With the move to Southlake, The Novus Academy will align its school calendar to match Carroll ISD, according to city documents. However, since the school is private, the start date is flexible, according to school officials.
