A mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus this week in Frisco, according to a July 18 city news release.

This is the third test pool that has tested positive for the virus in July. Last year, 28 positive test pools were identified. In response, the city is expected to spray for mosquitoes over the weekend.

The details

The positive mosquito pool is located near the intersection of River Trail and Copper Point Lane, and a third-party contractor will ground spray in the area.

The contractor will spray the area overnight and in the mornings from July 18 to July 19.

Spraying is expected to happen in parts of these neighborhoods:
  • Village Lakes
  • Crosspointe Park
  • Park Place Estates
  • Pearson Farms
  • Heritage Village
  • Westfalls Village

What else?

Frisco has seen three mosquito pools test positive this season. Residents can view the city’s GIS Mosquito Dashboard to see the locations, as well as positive pools from this year and previous years. Frisco has reported zero cases of West Nile virus this year.

The city shared precautionary steps outlined by the Texas Department of State Health Services that can protect people from mosquito bites.

Residents should:
  • Wear long sleeves and pants outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active
  • Apply insect repellent every time they go outside.
  • Remove standing water that mosquitoes can breed in
The city tests for mosquito pools from May 1 through Nov. 15, a practice outlined in Frisco’s Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan.
