The district’s nepotism guidelines prohibit board members from serving if they have a second-degree relative who is employed by LISD.
Bonner held the at-large Place 6 position, meaning LISD will hold a districtwide election to select his replacement this fall.
The specifics
In a Facebook post announcing his departure, Bonner said he is proud of his accomplishments on the board, especially helping to select Lori Rapp as Superintendent.
“While I am leaving earlier than planned and have about two years remaining on the term to which I was elected, I am proud of the Board of Trustees’ work the past four years and my role as a part of the team of eight,” Bonner said in the post.
A board member since 2021, Bonner was involved in many committees, including:
- Policy Committee
- Board Audit Committee
- Finance Audit Committee
- Program & Budget Review Committee
- Finance Fund Balance Committee
- Finance Debt Management Committee
- Superintendent Evaluation Committee
- Legislative Committee
- Naming Committee
Quote of note
Board President Jenny Proznik shared a statement on Facebook notifying the LISD community of this change.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for Dr. Bonner’s unwavering dedication and service to Lewisville ISD,” Proznik said. “His vast knowledge, steadfast leadership, and genuine care for our students and staff have left a lasting mark on our district. Serving alongside Dr. Bonner has truly been an honor, and we are deeply thankful for the wisdom, compassion and perspective he consistently brought to the board.”
What’s next
State law requires that if a school board member steps down with more than one year remaining in their term, the district must hold a special election to select their replacement within 180 days.
Proznik said board members will discuss next steps at the August board meeting. The meeting is scheduled for Aug. 11 at the LISD Administrative Center, which is located at 1565 W. Main St. in Lewisville.
