With the fall season approaching, community members can prepare for local holiday celebrations, including the 35th Annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot.

What you need to know

Interested individuals can participate in the race in a variety of ways, including the timed or untimed 5-mile run, 1-mile walk/run or the kids' 1k. Those interested in participating but unable to attend in person are encouraged to join the event virtually.

Registration for the trot is now open with early bird discounts available until Oct. 1.

The event will benefit nonprofit Caritas of Austin, which works toward preventing and ending homelessness in Austin by providing homes and tailored services.

What’s changed

To help ease congestion across the First Street Bridge, starting times will be scattered in the following order:
  • 8:30 a.m.: timed runners
  • 8:45 a.m.: Kids K runners
  • 9:10 a.m.: wheelchair participants
  • 9:15 a.m.: untimed runners and walkers
One-mile walkers will begin the route once the start line is clear.

ThunderCloud is also announcing its new Turkey Trot logo designed by J.P. Hellacious through the Art From the Streets program.

“Our quinquagenary of feeding Austin and the Turkey Trot’s 35th anniversary are milestones that speak to the generosity, spirit and heart of this city,” Mike Haggerty, co-owner of ThunderCloud Subs and executive director of the Turkey Trot, said. “For decades, our sponsors, volunteers and employees have made it possible for the community to come together each Thanksgiving morning to support Caritas. We’re proud to mark the occasion with a new logo that reflects our love for Austin and the traditions we’ve built.”

Some background

The annual tradition first started in 1991 with an estimated 600 participants.

Today, the run is the largest five-mile run in Texas with approximately 20,000 participants each year and has raised more than $5.4 million for Caritas of Austin.
