After 20 years on South Congress Avenue, toy shop Monkey See, Money Do! will relocate to Menchaca Road near South Lamar Boulevard in May.

“It was time for a positive change of scenery,” owner Brandon Hodge said in an emailed statement, who called the move "voluntary and celebratory."

A little context

Hodge said that he was originally drawn to South Congress for the “cheap rent and amazing community of scrappy upstart businesses.”

Since then, South Congress has grown into a globally-recognized shopping destination, bringing with it the ups and downs of operating a small business in the area, he said.

Monkey See, Monkey Do! will remain open on South Congress until the last weekend of April, and will celebrate their grand reopening the following weekend, beginning May 2.

The quirky novelty shop features a selection of toys, knick-knacks, games, apparel and more.

Also of note

Hodge also owns Big Top Candy Shop on South Congress, which is not relocating.

Quote of note

“With all due respect to our incredible culinary neighbors on South Congress, after two decades we have decided to explore new lunch options,” Hodge said. “While we will definitely miss having our fill of Gueros, Home Slice and Magnolia Café every day, we felt it was high time to explore some of the menus South Lamar has to offer.”
