Bowie Elementary to undergo turnaround plan
A turnaround plan for Bowie Elementary School is making progress after officials gave a presentation to the San Marcos CISD board of trustees.
What's happening?
Bowie has received two consecutive “unacceptable” accountability ratings from the Texas Education Agency. If the campus receives five consecutive “unacceptable” ratings, TEA may consider school closure, according to Terrence Sanders, deputy superintendent of academics and leadership development.
The turnaround plan aims to move Bowie to a C rating by 2026 and a B by 2027.

In a nutshell
The work is set to include:
- Turf fields
 - School logos on the turf
 - Shock pads under the turf
 - Full-pour track surfaces

Texas State University students can now learn how interior spaces can support people with mental health conditions.
The gist
The recently launched program, called architectural psychopathology, focuses on designing therapeutic environments for people with conditions such as autism, dementia, depression and more.
Developed by assistant psychology professor Mais Aljunaidy and assistant interior design professor Nadim Adi, the course teaches students to involve people with specific needs in the design process, officials said in a news release. It also encourages students to be intentional in creating living spaces and to advocate for building codes that prioritize mental health.
