The City Park Playground Improvements Project construction began on Aug. 25. San Marcos City Council approved the project for $574,961 at the meeting on June 3.
The details
According to the city website, updates will include:
- A new playground with padded play turf
- Shade structures
- Outdoor fitness equipment
- Trail improvements
- Accessibility improvements
- Water bottle filling station
“The new installation will offer diverse play and fitness opportunities for children, teens and adults, including inclusive options for individuals of varying abilities. The design promotes active lifestyles, with features allowing adults to engage in climbers and obstacle elements similar to those enjoyed by children at the Children’s Park Playscape,” city documents state.
The project is meant to improve ADA accessibility as well as enhance connectivity with the addition of accessible routes to amenities from the shared-use pathway.
By the numbers
It will be funded through Capital Improvement Projects funds and an insurance claim from previous damages, in which a vehicle struck the original playscape, rendering it unusable, according to city documents.

Construction should be completed by approximately Oct. 25, according to the city website.
