The background
AISD’s Summer Theatre Series, launched in 2014, is a free enrichment program that aims to provide students professional-level training in musical theatre, acting and tech. Despite starting as a small summer enrichment initiative, the series has grown into one of AISD’s “most anticipated artistic traditions,” according to AISD information.
Over the last decade, more than 2,000 students have participated in the program with many going on to pursue careers in the arts.
The program is enabled through partnerships between AISD fine arts, district staff and community support, according to district information.
What they’re saying
“This program has grown beyond anything we imagined,” Musical Director Marco Bazan said in a news release. “Ten years ago, the district set out to give students a stage, and now we’re seeing alumni return as professionals, teachers, and mentors. 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' is the perfect way to honor that spirit: it’s vibrant, whimsical, and full of heart.”
