Leander Mayor Christine DeLisle announced she would leave her post at City Council’s Sept. 18 meeting.

“[Our family has] made the decision to relocate,” DeLisle said.

What residents need to know

Mayor Pro Tem Na’Cole Thompson will serve in DeLisle’s absence. DeLisle will hold her post until Oct. 16, she said.

“Continuity of government is important, so over the next few weeks, I’ll be working with our pro tem on transition. I intend to serve every day to the best of my ability until the end of our meeting on Oct. 16,” DeLisle said.

Ty Meighan, communications manager for the city, said DeLisle had not officially resigned as of Sept. 22.

"Once we receive a formal resignation delivered to the city secretary’s office, we will place an item on the council agenda to accept her resignation and call a special election to fill the unexpired term," he said in an email to Community Impact.

Meighan noted the election will need to be held within 120 days of the official resignation, and Thompson will fill in in the meantime.

DeLisle entered office in 2021, and she was re-elected in 2024. Her current term was set to expire in May 2027.

What they’re saying

DeLisle expressed confidence in Thompson’s leadership abilities.

“She’s in her third year as pro tem, and there’s a reason for that,” DeLisle said about Thompson.

DeLisle noted she’s not running for another office, and she said she’s satisfied with her time on council.

“I’m proud of the work we’ve done here,” she said.
