Peace Lutheran Church is partnering with Foundation for the Homeless, HomeAid Austin and more to provide transitional housing for families in the Austin area. The project is expected to begin construction on Sept. 1 and conclude in April 2026, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation project filing.

The details

The new facility will span 3,368 square feet and include four sleeping units. Concepts for the $1,120,000 project formed in 2021 when the church noticed a need to alternative housing options for community members, according to Peace Lutheran Church’s website. Through the new housing facility, project partners hope to house around 16-36 families per year.

Along with the four private sleeping units, Peace Lutheran Church is looking to construct a large kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining areas, playroom, bathroom, laundry, office and living space. Families are projected to stay at the transitional housing space for 30-90 days while partners help residents seek permanent housing.
