Bastrop drivers should expect some delays along Hwy. 71 between 8 p.m.-6 a.m. through June as lanes close to make way for road construction.

In a nutshell

Contractors with the Texas Department of Transportation began the lane closures May 12 at the intersection of SH 304 and Edward Burleson Road, progressing westbound.

Bastrop Public Information Officer Colin Guerra said work will take place Sundays through Thursdays, and is expected to continue through the end of June, weather permitting.

What you should know

The project spans the main lanes of Hwy. 71 from the Travis County line to FM 20. Frontage roads between Hwy. 304 and FM 20 will also undergo work.

Guerra said throughout construction, TxDOT crews will close one lane at a time, allowing traffic to continue through the remaining open lane.

What else?

Drivers should anticipate delays and exercise caution in construction zones, Guerra said.
